US National Academy of Engineering Member Dr. Subhash Singhal Visited NIMTE

Dr. Subhash Singhal, the member of the US National Academy of Engineering and a prestige solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) specialist, visited Ningbo Institute of Material Technology and Engineering (NIMTE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on March 19, 2011. Dr. Singhal gave a review talk of “High Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells:Status, Challenges and Opportunities” and had a lab tour over Fuel Cell & Energy Technology Division (FCET). Dr. Singhal highly appreciated the achievements of FCET in no more than 4 years. He said that the FCET had become one of the largest R&D groups in the world and would achieve further improvement in SOFC field. Dr. Singhal also had an intensive discussion with the local organizing committee of the International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Technology which will be held in Ningbo on November. Dr. Singhal will attend the symposium as the symposium co-chair and international advisory committee.

Dr. Singhal had worked at Siemens Power Generation (formerly Westinghouse Electric Corporation) for over 29 years where he was manager of Fuel Cell Technology there, and was responsible for the development of high temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) for stationary power generation. He joined the Energy and Environment Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in 2000, and was one of chief leaders of Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance (SECA). Dr. Singhal is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the Washington State Academy of Sciences; a Fellow of four professional societies (American Ceramic Society, The Electrochemical Society, ASM International, and American Association for the Advancement of Science). He received many awards for sustained advances in fuel cell technology and has served on many national and international advisory panels including National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy, and the European Commission, etc.
